Children Internet Governance Forum

Our Mission

To create a safe, inclusive and empowering digital environment where all children can freely participate, express themselves and thrive online.

Our vision

To provide a child-centered platform that amplifies the voices of children and young people in Internet governance discussions, promotes awareness of their digital rights and responsibilities, and fosters meaningful engagement between children, policymakers, industry and civil society to advance safer online spaces.

Our Goal

To strengthen children’s participation and influence in digital policy and decision-making processes, while promoting awareness, collaboration and action toward building a safer and more inclusive internet for all children in Kenya.

The Kenya Children’s Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is an annual event organized by Watoto Watch Network, in collaboration with the Kenya ICT Network (KICTANet).

This forum provides a platform for children to share their perspectives and experiences regarding Internet use and safety. During the consecutive years we have successfully held the children’s IGF in Nairobi, Busia and Laikipia counties.

We are excited to announce the hosting of the 6th Children’s IGF in Tharaka Nithi County on 10th May 2025.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide a platform for children and young people to share their perspectives and experiences regarding Internet use and safety.
  2. To raise awareness about the rights and responsibilities of children in the digital age.
  3. To facilitate dialogue between children, policymakers, industry representatives, and civil society organizations on Internet governance issues.
  4. To empower children to actively participate in shaping policies and initiatives that promote a safe and inclusive digital environment.

The Children’s IGF features interactive sessions and presentations. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including digital inclusion, digital literacy, and child online safety.

The children have the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, share their insights, and contribute to the development of actionable recommendations. This activity is open to children between 13 and 17 years.
