This is bullying that takes place on the Internet through Social media & Online Gaming sites. It can be in form of:

  • Posting abusive and threatening comments on the individual’s personal profile or web page
  • Stealing a password – to post comments and images which are recognized to the original user

Tips

  • Be careful who you trust online-even if you have chat for many months/years that person is still a stranger
  • Do not chat privately with strangers
  • Report anyone sending or asking for sexual images/videos or sending sexual messages

This is using technology to send sexual content-messages, pictures, videos. What the law says?

  • If a young person under the age of 18 engages in sexting by creating an explicit photo or video of themselves then they have potentially created an indecent image of a child.
  • By sending this content on to another person, they have an indecent image of a child.
  • By receiving content of this kind from another young person, they are then in possession f an indecent image of a child.

Liable 5 years’ imprisonment- (Sexual Offences Act).

Emotional and Psychological Damage

Sextortion is a form of blackmail where sexual information or images are used to force someone to do something by threatening to share them with others

To avoid being a victim of sextortion Do not take or share naked images of yourself with anyone.

These includes:

  • Pornography or sexually explicit material
  • Violence, gore, or other disturbing content
  • Hate speech or discriminatory material
  • Illegal activities, such as drug use or gambling

If you ever see any of the mentioned content online, this is what to do

  1. Report the content
  2. Block the user
  3. Talk to someone or call 116.

  • Use strong passwords and two-factor authentication
  • Do not share personal information such as your address, phone number, and birthdate.
  • Avoid Public WIFI

Screen time is the time you spend each day using devices with screens, like TVs, video consoles, smartphones and tablets. A health screen time is one that does not replace sleep, school work, exercise or family time. How to avoid internet addiction? Create a family Digital Agreement indicating the following

  • When and where devices are accessible
  • What content can be accessed
